The Amani Coffee Story;
coffee with purpose.

In 2016, after much debate, we travelled to Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo. We met with farmers, government officials, cooperative leaders, and local dignitaries. Everyone we met overwhelmed us with kindness, positivity, and a desire to create a better life. We felt compelled to help.

We believe that the only kind of business worth building is one with a greater purpose. This is the foundation of relationship-based coffee. We are beyond “fair trade” because we are in direct relationship with the farmers who grow your coffee.

At Amani, we don’t just order coffee from some broker and ask if it’s “fair trade and organic.” We work with our farmers every step of the process to create better coffee for you. This is not about where your coffee comes from. This is about who your coffee comes from.

By giving back and reinvesting in the community, we establish long lasting relationships with our farmers so that they can create better lives for themselves and their families.

We are what we want, Peace

Amani is the Swahili word meaning “peace.” When naming our company, it was only natural to choose a word that truly embodies our core value of peace. By working directly with local coffee farmers, we aid Congolese families to live more peaceful and prosperous lives.

Social Recovery Needs

Between 1998-2003, the 2nd Congo War took 5 million lives. There are no words for the pain and suffering endured by the people of DRC.

Economic Recovery Needs

Much of the 2nd Congo War conflict occurred in the areas where coffee is grown. Production fell from over 115,000 tons of coffee per year to just 6,000 tons.

Humane Recovery Developing

Those farmers who remained after the conflict lost their land, crops, and means of providing for their families. In the years since, a combination of private donation and foreign aid has begun the restoration effort in DRC.

The Way Forward

To aide this restoration effort, Amani Coffee Company is proud to support the people of DRC in multiple ways:

Sharing the wealth.

We believe in sharing the success and growth of our business with the people who make it possible.

Supporting proper wages.

We know that our farmers survive on the wages earned from their crops. To help support our farmers, and their families, Amani Coffee Company pays a living and equal wage to all our farmers.

Reinvest in the community

We work with our farmers to determine what is the most important in the area where they live and we reinvest to make it better. This covers everything from roads and schools, to better equipment, and clean water supply.

Our Dark Roast

These beans roasts long enough to develop their oils and bring them to the surface. This in turn creates a bolder, more full-bodied flavor that will transport you back to your favorite diner or the drip coffee your parents used to make.
With less caffeine than our light roast, it is the perfect all-day, everyday roast.
